Who We Are

The Scoliosis Care & Movement Summit was created to bridge a gap that many people with scoliosis experience: the disconnect between medical guidance and real-life movement.

Too often, individuals are left with either clinical information that feels overwhelming—or exercise advice that isn’t tailored to their specific curve. This summit brings those worlds together in a way that is practical, personalized, and immediately applicable.

Hosted in Raleigh, North Carolina, this two-day experience combines expert medical insight with hands-on movement training rooted in Schroth-based therapy and scoliosis-specific Pilates. The goal is simple: help you better understand your spine and give you the tools to move with confidence in your everyday life.

What makes this experience different is its intentionally small, focused format. With participation limited to just 30 attendees, every session is designed to be interactive, individualized, and directly relevant to your body. This is not a passive conference—it’s a working experience where you learn, practice, and build a plan you can actually use.

Led by a team of specialists including Christopher I. Shaffrey, Brittany Hunt, and Stacy Joyce, the summit offers a rare opportunity to explore scoliosis care from multiple perspectives in one cohesive setting.

By the end of the weekend, you won’t just leave with more information—you’ll leave with a clearer understanding of your body, a personalized movement strategy, and the confidence to apply what you’ve learned long after the event is over.

What You’ll Learn

This summit is designed to move beyond general advice and give you a clear, personalized understanding of how scoliosis affects your body—and what to do about it.

Each session builds on the next, combining medical clarity with hands-on application so you’re not just learning concepts—you’re learning how to use them in real life.

Understand How Scoliosis Actually Impacts Your Body

You’ll start by developing a more accurate picture of what scoliosis is—and what it isn’t.

Rather than thinking of scoliosis as simply a “curve,” you’ll learn how it influences spinal rotation, muscle imbalances, breathing patterns, and overall movement mechanics. This foundation helps you make sense of why certain exercises feel helpful while others don’t.

You’ll also gain clarity around common misconceptions, so you can make more informed decisions about your care moving forward.

Know When Surgery Is—and Isn’t—Necessary

Led with insight from Christopher I. Shaffrey, this portion breaks down one of the most confusing and often anxiety-inducing aspects of scoliosis care.

You’ll learn:

  • What factors actually determine surgical recommendations

  • How curve progression is evaluated over time

  • When conservative care is appropriate—and when it may not be

The goal here isn’t to push a decision—it’s to help you understand the decision-making process so you can approach it with confidence and clarity.

Learn Schroth-Based Breathing & Correction Techniques

With guidance from Brittany Hunt, you’ll be introduced to the principles of Schroth therapy in a way that is accessible and practical.

You’ll practice:

  • Curve-specific breathing strategies that expand restricted areas

  • Postural corrections tailored to different curve patterns

  • Techniques to improve symmetry and spinal alignment awareness

This is hands-on learning—you’ll not only see how these techniques work, but feel the difference in your own body.

Modify Pilates and Exercise Safely for Your Curve

Many people with scoliosis are told what not to do—but rarely shown what to do instead.

Through scoliosis-specific Pilates instruction with Stacy Joyce, you’ll learn how to:

  • Adapt common exercises to support your spine

  • Avoid movements that may reinforce imbalances

  • Build strength and stability in a way that aligns with your structure

This section focuses on empowerment—giving you the confidence to participate in movement, not avoid it.

Apply What You Learn to Everyday Life

The real value of this summit is in what happens after you leave.

You’ll work through practical strategies for:

  • Improving posture without overthinking it

  • Reducing pain and fatigue during daily activities

  • Integrating corrective techniques into routines you already have

Instead of a rigid program, you’ll learn how to make flexible, sustainable adjustments that fit your lifestyle.

Build a Personalized Routine You Can Continue at Home

Throughout the weekend, everything comes together into a plan that is specific to you.

With small group coaching and individualized feedback, you’ll leave with:

  • A structured (but realistic) movement routine

  • Clear priorities based on your curve and goals

  • The confidence to continue progressing on your own

No guesswork. No one-size-fits-all approach. Just a plan that makes sense for your body.
